About Steve Russell

Steve has spent most of his time on Charleston radio. Having grown up on a farm in Bamberg, SC he started his radio career in the tenth grade at age 15. He would get out of school at 2:30 and by 3:00 pm he would be on the air. Almost daily his classmates would hand him song requests and dedications to play that afternoon then off to the radio station he'd go.

Three years later at age 18, he moved to Charleston and joined WTMA (then a Top 40 station) doing the overnight shift.  His time spent on the Charleston airwaves continued at several stations until May 31, 2002, when he did his final radio gig as afternoon drive DJ at Sunny 96.9 where he spent 12 years.

Steve began singing and hosting karaoke shows in August of 1999 which eventually led him to doing it full time today. "Being out and in front of so many I've met more people in this short time than I did during my entire radio career."

When not hosting karaoke or playing DJ music for weddings and parties, Steve enjoys driving his classic cars and trucks, among them a 1963 Ford Galaxie Mayberry Squad Car. "I love the show. Being from a small town it reminds me of my childhood.  I can relate."

Pictured here during the Mayberry Days Festival is Steve's "Squad Car" in front of Wally's Service Station in Mt. Airy, NC, hometown of Andy Griffith.  "This was right after the parade."

Steve's '61 Ford Galaxie.  "This was my first car.  What a back seat!  It inspired Clarence Carter's Strokin'."

Steve's '58 Ford F-100.  "Cool 'Ole Skool' truck."

Steve's '53 Chevy Truck. "This is what I learned to drive on."

Steve's '65 Chevy Truck.  "She's comes with a throaty dual exhaust and an 8 ft. bed that never has to be made.  All the girls' crazy 'bout a pickup man."
